CAST and aiEDU Co-host Pioneering Workshop: Vibe Coding + UDL

In this live, hands-on session—Vibe Coding + UDL: Rapidly Building More Inclusive Learning Tools—participants explored how rapid, AI-assisted development (vibe coding) can be intentionally aligned with accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) from the ground up. Hosted jointly by CAST and aiEDU, this collaborative workshop marked exciting new territory for the field, offering educators an opportunity to pioneer inclusive AI tools together.

Combining Learning Science with AI Personalization

AI “vibe coding” is transforming software development by allowing educators, product designers, and learners to rapidly prototype solutions for everyday classroom challenges, personalize learning experiences, and test innovative ideas without needing extensive technical expertise. However, rapid creation doesn’t automatically guarantee inclusive design. Without an intentional accessibility strategy from the start, fast-built AI tools risk repeating old classroom barriers.

To solve this, we’ve paired AI vibe coding with UDL—CAST’s framework that eliminates hidden barriers to education by grounding design in established learning science. UDL prompts developers to address learner variability proactively, eliminate obstacles to accessibility, and design for student agency from day one.

Evidence consistently shows that UDL-driven designs improve literacy, student engagement, and the capacity to meet diverse learner needs across both physical and digital environments. By grounding rapid AI vibe coding in UDL principles, teams build learning tools that are accessible, highly personalized, and equitable from launch—saving time and resources while delivering better outcomes for every student.

As participants demonstrated throughout the workshop, the future of inclusive learning will not be built solely by software engineers. It will also be shaped by educators, learners, families, researchers, and innovators who understand classroom challenges deeply and now have access to tools so they can create solutions together.
