CAST, the University of Kansas's Center for Research on Learning, and the National Association of State Directors of Special Education partnered on a five-year initiative to research how online learning can be made more accessible, engaging, and effective for K-12 learners with disabilities.

CAST's flagship online course for anyone interested in a facilitated online experience to master the basics of Universal Design for Learning. The Spring session runs from February 3 – April 27, 2020.

In 2006, CAST joined with several organizations to form the National UDL Task Force, an interdisciplinary coalition that advocates support for UDL in federal, state, and local policy. The Task Force has successfully advocated for the inclusion of UDL in the federal Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 and in various policy directives from the US Department of Education.

In partnership with CTE educators at the Seacoast School of Technology (SST) in NH, we are co-designing professional development that specifically supports hands-on teaching in remote or hybrid learning environments.

Project RAISE applies Universal Design for Learning principles to science curriculum in order to make it more accessible, engaging, and effective for diverse learners experiencing incarceration.

CAST is partnering with youth and staff at the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in Leominster, MA to design a program incorporating Universal Design for Learning principles that puts high school students squarely in a design role to imagine educational apps that would make the world a better place for learning.
