Ruth Templeton is an IEP Implementation Specialist focusing on the Special Education process for the IEP Improvement Project. She has a passion for removing barriers for students, families, and teachers to meet students' needs. She comes to CAST from a small charter school, The Birches Academy, in Salem, New Hampshire.

At The Birches Academy, Ruth served as the Dean of Students, with a focus on school leadership, social emotional learning, and coordinating and supporting the special education/504 process in the school. As a founder of The Birches Academy, she recognized the importance of seeing each student as an individual, and working to create a culture in the school to meet each student where they are at, and providing opportunities to engage meaningfully in the learning process.

She has worked in a variety of educational settings, including Early Intervention, an Elementary Special Education setting, as well as a Residential School.

She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Psychology from the State University of New York at Potsdam, and a Masters of Education in Special Education from the University of Colorado at Denver. She holds a Level 1 Certification in the Wilson Reading Program and she is a certified Educational Therapist from the University of California Riverside. Ruth is also a certified Life Coach, with a focus on anxiety.

When not at CAST you can find Ruth at a Pilates studio, reading a book, or spending time with her family and pets.

My Inspiration

Lynn Lyons’ strategies to help address anxiety are a game changer. They’re actionable and strategic, which provide students with a plan on how to address anxiety.

Life requires strategy, and having tools in your toolbox to help manage how to react to the obstacles life presents to us is so important. The techniques found through Meditation and Mindfulness, such as those found on Headspace, are tools everyone needs.

I believe in taking a positive attitude toward the world. My hope is to leave the world a little bit better than when I got here.
