CAST regularly partners with organizations in the public and private sectors to explore challenging questions in education. CAST brings a unique perspective from its years of developing the Universal Design for Learning framework to scientific studies in education.
This EdTech Design Challenge and Incubator project gives high school youth the opportunity to immerse themselves in design thinking, cutting-edge technology and the innovation economy, allowing them to discover new talents and interests beyond the narrow confines and literacies valued in school.
This project extends a CAST/SRI Google App-based curriculum and technology innovation called CORGI (Co-Organize Learning with the Google Interface) to improve STEM learning and higher order thinking for middle students with learning disabilities and their typically developing peers in general education STEM courses.

Researchers from CAST and Arizona State University developed and tested Writer’s Key, a web-based tool that guides and supports middle-school students in writing argumentative (persuasive) and informational (expository) compositions. The research team based the design of Writer's Key on the framework of Universal Design for Learning. In addition to scaffolding users in the writing process, Writer's Key also provides supports for users such as multiple models, skill development activities, interactive work spaces, guided questions, and a breakdown of writing by process components in a flexible work space. Additionally, built-in peer to peer and teacher to student feedback support the writing process.
