Statement
CAST, 2013
CAST responds to the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium’s draft of Accessibility and Accommodations Guidelines.
-
When CAST first began publishing for teachers about UDL, we still saw printed books as the primary medium, supplemented by digital enhancements and supports. Now the printed text supplements what's online. Universal Design for Learning: Theory and Practice is an online multimedia "book" that includes contributions from dozens of educators in the field.
-
The AccessATE project goal is to support the ATE community and provide grantees with the tools and knowledge to increase the accessibility and usability of their resources and activities. CAST will be providing technical assistance on accessibility and Universal Design for Learning to ATE Centers and ATE research grants.
-
The CAST Folktales line of work supported literacy development for students, with a special focus on encouraging English Language Learners to leverage their home language to build reading comprehension skills in English.
-
CAST is working as a part of the web infrastructure team (collaborating with the Director of Digital Infrastructure and Virtual Community and the Director of Operations and Communication for the REVISE Center) to advise and consult on creating tools for the AISL Equity Resource Center, specifically, the materials and products created and posted on the AISL website.
-
We're improving career and technical education across the state of Michigan by developing a shared professional development vision and a common student-centered language focused on inclusion and the UDL framework.
-
Through the work of CAST and 14 other founding partners, families have an innovative digital resource where they can come to understand their children's learning and attention issues.
-

UDL has provided me with much more and helped me to explore universal design principles in the construction and implementation of assessments within the graduate courses I teach and in supporting the master’s degree candidate students I encounter in implementing these principles in their practices.
