Project Name
Maryland Virtual Learning Opportunities (MVLO) Course Expansion Program

Project Description

In response to the dramatic ways that the COVID-19 pandemic changed how educational content is delivered, Maryland Public Television’s Office of Instructional Technology, in partnership with local school districts, recognized the need to offer more and better high-quality online and blended-learning courses.

To make those online learning experiences more accessible and engaging, the Maryland Public Television team turned to CAST. With expertise in inclusive instructional design using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, CAST’s learning specialists will help design and deliver new online teaching and learning products that are engaging and fully accessible.

The partners, which also include WestEd, will remake or enhance seven courses for students: algebra, geometry, science, data science, social studies, equity and justice, and Chinese. They will also develop two professional development courses for teachers, one on data science and the other on equity and social justice. Teacher facilitation guides will be developed and delivered through the Canvas Learning Management System to support instruction for these courses.

CAST specialists will bring their expertise in inclusive and accessible instructional design using UDL principles to the design and delivery of these new teaching and learning products.
