Project Name
Maryland Virtual Learning Opportunities (MVLO) Course Expansion Program

Project Description

In response to the dramatic ways that the COVID-19 pandemic changed how educational content is delivered, Maryland Public Television’s Office of Instructional Technology, in partnership with local school districts, recognized the need to offer more and better high-quality online and blended-learning courses.

To make those online learning experiences more accessible and engaging, the Maryland Public Television team turned to CAST. With expertise in inclusive instructional design using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, CAST’s learning specialists supported the design of online teaching and learning products that were more fully accessible.

The partners, which also include WestEd, supported the enhancement of seven courses for students: algebra, geometry, science, data science, social studies, equity and justice, and Chinese. We developed, tested, and shared some best practices for the integration of GeoGebra and Desmos interactives in Canvas.

CAST specialists brought their expertise in inclusive and accessible instructional design using UDL principles to the design and delivery of these new teaching and learning products.
