Dear Friends,

We are thrilled to announce the addition of three remarkable individuals to the CAST Board of Directors: Karla Estrada, LaRon A. Scott, and Kristina Ishmael. Each brings a wealth of expertise and a passion for creating equitable, inclusive learning experiences that align perfectly with CAST’s mission and vision.

Karla Estrada, with over 25 years of experience in educational leadership, currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent of Instruction for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Her commitment to educational excellence and opportunity for all students and her extensive background in addressing academic inequities make her a valuable addition to our board.

LaRon A. Scott, Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Associate Professor, Special Education, and Co-Editor of Inclusion at the University of Virginia, brings a deep understanding of recruitment, preparation, and retention of historically marginalized educators. His expertise in special education, universal design for learning, and postsecondary transition programming will significantly contribute to our efforts in fostering inclusive learning environments.

Kristina Ishmael, leader of Ishmael Consulting, is a recognized educator and policy expert with nearly two decades of experience in the education sector. Her recent role as Deputy Director at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Educational Technology under the Biden-Harris Administration highlighted her expertise in digital equity and AI in education, demonstrating her dedication to advancing equitable learning opportunities for all.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Karla, LaRon, and Kristina. We are excited to collaborate with them to further our mission of ensuring that all learning experiences are intentionally designed to elevate strengths and eliminate barriers.

Warm regards,
