In response to the COVID-19 quarantine, CAST recently conducted its first-ever virtual professional learning institutes. The two-day institutes—Introduction to Universal Design for Learning and UDL Implementation Academy—would have taken place in person at CAST’s offices during April. Instead, CAST quickly pivoted to putting them online.

The results suggest new and more inclusive ways of doing business may be on the horizon. Instead of cancellations, registrations actually went up. Without travel and accommodation costs, some schools took advantage of the savings to enroll larger teams of educators while others who had not planned to attend the in-person event now could do so, including a team of principals from Iceland.

In post-institute surveys, participants expressed a deeper understanding of UDL and commitment to implementation. The virtual delivery format raised few, if any, concerns.

What does this mean for you? More virtual offerings! We'd love to see you there.
