On November 18, Digital Promise hosted the first-ever design challenge titled “Designing a Better Future for Adult Learners.” The event took place in five locations across the United States, linked by simulcast web conferencing technology.  CAST's Director of Design, Kim Ducharme, and Senior Interactive Designer, Cassandra Sell, both participated.

Twenty teams comprised of 150 education and design professionals brainstormed ways to improve education for underserved adult learners, especially in the integration of language and literacy skills with job training. Specific ideas ranged from providing online coaching to designing apps to scaffold English language skills. Participants pitched ideas to panels of investors, funders, and potential partners.

Watch Kim Ducharme pitch an idea for a  Language + Skills Lab app that pairs childcare job-skills training with English language instruction. See all the pitches from Design Day.

Digital Promise is a nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to spur innovation in education in order to improve the opportunity to learn for all Americans.
