As part of our mission to bust all barriers to learning, CAST researches, designs, and develops innovative solutions to make education more inclusive and effective.

Our research projects are typically funded by grants from federal organizations and private foundations. When developing proposals for these grants, we are always looking for schools, districts, and organizations to partner with us.

CAST’s learning scientists, education researchers, curriculum developers, and other experts provide sought-after speaking engagements on a range of topics related to UDL.

CAST, the University of Kansas's Center for Research on Learning, and the National Association of State Directors of Special Education partnered on a five-year initiative to research how online learning can be made more accessible, engaging, and effective for K-12 learners with disabilities.

CAST's work is made possible by the generous financial support of foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individuals. We regularly partner with other research organizations, K-12 and postsecondary educators, government agencies and foundations to investigate solutions to challenging questions.

The Multi-Gen Makers project is a collaboration with residents from Bayview Towers, a 200-unit affordable housing complex in Connecticut. Through a design-based research approach with iterative cycles of co-design, the project will develop and research a sustainable model for multigenerational making and learning that build the skills and dispositions that can support a STEM career trajectory.

Researchers from CAST and Arizona State University developed and tested Writer’s Key, a web-based tool that guides and supports middle-school students in writing argumentative (persuasive) and informational (expository) compositions.

Students with learning disabilities often report feeling stigmatized and stereotyped in school settings. This can have dramatic effects on academic performance in critical subjects such as math. Such barriers to learning can, in turn, have a lifelong impact on achievement.
