Universally Designed ePortfolio as Tool to Co-Design Inclusive Mindsets & Behaviors Framework with Global Special Olympics Community
Project Name:
Development of Next Generation Programming based on the Inclusive Mindsets & Behaviors Conceptual Framework
Project Description
We are excited to announce our collaboration with the Harvard Graduate School of Education's EASEL Lab and Special Olympics to implement the Inclusive Mindsets and Behaviors (IMB) conceptual framework into practice. Our joint efforts focus on refining a set of engaging activities - designed to cultivate the elements of IMB within the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools (UCS) programs worldwide.
Central to this project is CAST's digital portfolio, which has been successfully tested in a range of educational settings, including career and technical education, community colleges, pre-apprenticeship programs, and dual enrollment programs. Initially developed as a tool to support competency-based learning, this ePortfolio has evolved into an effective resource for co-designing content with end users. By enabling learners to actively participate in the design process, we can ensure that the activities resonate with the needs and experiences within UCS programs.
Our digital portfolio is built on the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity. Equipped with features such as speech-to-text, text-to-speech, translation options, and a built-in dictionary, the portfolio accommodates a range of preferred communication methods and abilities. Together, through this collaborative effort, we aim to make a meaningful impact on the educational landscape of Unified Champion Schools, promoting a culture of inclusion and support for every participant.
