As an Implementation Specialist for the California Coalition for Inclusive Literacy (CCIL), Elise Gee Yerkey partners with educators in Los Angeles County and throughout the state to infuse UDL practices into classroom instruction. By supporting literacy across content areas, Elise works to ensure equitable access for all in inclusive environments. Her perspectives on language, inclusion, and equity are grounded in her identity as a child of immigrant English learners and early experiences with classmates and loved ones with disabilities.
Elise brings a wealth of leadership experience in educational settings from roles she has held including site administrator, induction mentor, alternative education instructional specialist, accessibility consultant, and K-12 instructional coach. Fostering professional learning using iterative and reflective practices is her passion. Her roots will always be in special education and her heart with her former middle school students.
This quote encompasses the work I do with CAST as an educator who strives to remove barriers and value learner variability. It's reminiscent of Sir Ken Robinson's work on creative and cultural education which encourages us to view ourselves as cultivators and nurturers of learning whose task is to provide optimal conditions for growth.
