Your partner during COVID-19 to make teaching and learning accessible, engaging, and effective
At CAST, we understand the challenge you and your colleagues face: to create and implement remote and distance learning that truly leaves no one behind.
Our team of experienced educators and researchers are working every day during this crisis with states, districts, schools, community-based programs, institutions of higher education, companies, and nonprofits to support inclusive learning.
We draw on years of accomplishments in various areas of education, especially K–12 learning design, special education, higher education, career and technical education, and workforce development. CAST pioneered the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework—now endorsed and included in major federal education legislation, including ESSA and Perkins V—and its research-based UDL Guidelines can help educators improve continuous, remote, and online learning.
We are here to help you accomplish your goals.
- Professional learning for designing and implementing engaging, effective, and inclusive instruction that meet the needs of all learners
- Technical assistance for accessibility to ensure that materials and methods comply with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and civil-rights statutes
- Applied research, evaluation, and design expertise that builds on CAST’s leadership of major USDOE- and NSF-funded partnerships to create universally designed learning environments, especially in literacy
- Learning Designed, an online platform to help you manage initiatives, create communities, get just-in-time resources and training, and earn UDL microcredentials
- Books and eBooks from the CAST catalog, along with access to authors, to build expertise in inclusive practices and assistive technology

CAST’s Professional Learning team and National Faculty is composed of experienced classroom educators and school leaders who will help you design and implement engaging, effective, and inclusive lessons that meet the needs of all learners. For example, since the COVID-19 outbreak, we’ve helped hundreds of classroom educators to apply Universal Design for Learning principles to make remote learning accessible and robust. Using just-in-time webinars, online course technology, video consultation, and our Learning Designed community and resource platform, CAST is ready to help you build a custom plan to support better teaching and learning during these difficult days.
Let CAST provide you with Technical Assistance and Education to optimize your remote learning offerings. As teaching moves online, do your materials—such as PDFs, webpages, slide decks, and videos—conform to federal guidelines set out in the Americans with Disabilities Act, IDEA, Section 504, and civil rights statutes? If not, CAST can help. For two decades, CAST has led nationwide efforts to develop and deliver accessible educational materials (AEM), even writing the US standard followed by curriculum publishers. Every day, we work with State and Local Education Agencies to improve their practices and make learning accessible to all.
We are experienced in all levels of education, including higher education, workforce development, and career and technical education. Across CAST, a strong and engaged team advances our workforce development efforts. We work with community colleges, apprenticeship programs, forward-thinking companies, career-oriented high school and college programs, and more. Let us help you address the particular challenges of carrying out this work in today’s environment. We are available for online coaching in inclusive practices, co-designing career-focused learning opportunities for special populations, and creating or curating accessible materials.
We are ready to partner with you on applied research and design. Winner of the Smithsonian Innovation in Education Award and many other awards, CAST has built a distinguished record of R&D in universally designed learning environments. We have led major USDOE and NSF projects, and we always welcome the opportunity to partner. CAST will work with you to explore and experiment with new ways to lower barriers to learning and increase opportunities for all—until learning has no limits. It’s our core work and mission. Let’s discuss ways we can work together.
