Image Describer Tutorial

1. Choose a Learning Goal

Although the alt text usually remains the same regardless of context, the long description should focus on the content most key to the instructional goal. Thus the same image could conceivably have many different long descriptions, depending on its use.

For information on setting learning goals, see Setting Learning Goals

To practice describing images, choose one of the following learning goals with which to work:

Science: Students will understand astronomical phenomena.
Math: Students will identify geometric shapes in the real world.
Social Studies: Students will identify ways in which various cultures differ from our own.
Language Arts: Students will use images of people as a springboard for creative writing.
Photography: Students will learn techniques for low light and action photography.
Physical Education: Students will appreciate how humans strive to achieve personal physical goals.
