Image Collector

The Image Collector consists of two tutorials and a tool.

  • Image Finder Tutorial. Images are a vital part of many if not all curricula. Photographs, drawings, art works, charts, graphs, maps, and many other kinds of images enhance, clarify, and communicate vital content and concepts. Digital images expand opportunities for teachers and learners alike. Collecting and using digital images in teaching increase the options for conveying ideas and information, stimulating writing, and encouraging participation. Using digital images, students can enhance their compositions, share personal experiences, and convey their knowledge and ideas in different ways. The flexibility of digital images makes them more useable and accessible to diverse learners than are printed images. The Image Finder Tutorial supports you in finding and saving educationally relevant digital images to use in your teaching.
  • Image Describer Tutorial. Images, even digital images, are inherently inaccessible to learners who cannot see or process them, such as students with low vision, blindness, or some kinds of learning disabilities. Such students need an "alternative" representation, such as a text description, to gain access to the image's content. Text that describes images can be read aloud using text-to-speech software, giving students access to the content being conveyed through images. By extending access to students with visual and other learning challenges, text descriptions enhance comprehension for all students. The Image Describer tutorial helps you make images work for all learners.
  • Image Collector Tool. Put your skills to work to enhance your curriculum and make it more flexible. The Image Collector Tool helps you find, save, and create educationally relevant images to use in your teaching.
