The Curriculum Barriers Template helps you analyze the potential barriers inherent in your planned curriculum materials and methods. You can download it in Microsoft Word or pdf format to use on screen or in print.
The template has three parts:
1. The Model Template shows how a teacher might examine planned curriculum materials and methods for the science unit on plants planned for a 3rd grade class with varied needs, strengths, and interests. Each method or material, listed at left, is aligned with student qualities. The Model highlights barriers created by the interaction between materials, methods, and student weaknesses and points out opportunities missed in the intersection between materials, methods, and student strengths or interests.
2. Examples of Prevailing Methods and Materials offers examples of common instructional practices. Included are teaching and learning materials, teaching approaches, and student activities.
3. The Blank Template offers structured support for analyzing potential barriers and missed opportunities in your own curriculum, within the context of your goals and your particular students.
