UDL Class Profile Maker Tutorial

An important part of implementing UDL in the classroom is recognizing the diverse kinds of learners that make up any class. Using the framework of the three brain networks can help structure an analysis of different learners that diverges from traditional categories and supports UDL teaching.

In this tutorial we show you how to create a learning profile by considering each student in light of the three brain networks, noting strengths, needs, and interests. Next, individual student traits are combined into a learning profile for the whole class. Viewing the traits of the whole group combined makes it easier to understand the curriculum barriers posed for the group as a whole. Because fixing the curriculum is the goal, the focus is on the potential barriers for the group rather than on particular students with challenges.

For the purpose of this tutorial, imagine that you are teaching a science unit about plants.
