ULE Background
The Universal Learning Edition (ULE) view provides a variety of supports to
help you learn and understand the content. The concept of ULEs emerged
from CASTs research on Universal Design for Learning. Universal Learning
Editions take advantage of the flexibility of digital media to embed optional
scaffolds and enhancements in content to enhance reading comprehension. CAST
is designing and researching ULEs for different content areas and grade
levels, making flexible smart content to support diverse learners
(for research reports see http://www.cast.org/about/index.cfm?i=295
).
Because the Summary and Concept Map views are already available for this material,
we have not included them as part of the ULE view. As a rule, those two views
would be included in a ULE for the classroom because they offer alternative
representations of the content and support diverse learners.
