Fourth grade students are engaged in a social studies unit on United States geography in which they are learning about their home state (Illinois) and surrounding states. The focus of this lesson, which is the second lesson in a six-day unit, is to work in a cooperative group to research characteristics of an assigned state and complete a draft of a physical map of the state.
