    When disability makes it difficult or impossible for students to read or use printed educational materials, they may need one or more specialized formats of the content–braille, large print, audio and/or digital text. The first half of this session will provide a brief overview of four specialized formats, five sources of specialized formats and the criteria that must be met to obtain materials from each source. The second half of the session will be devoted to addressing questions and comments from participants. Follow-up resources will be shared.

    The National AEM Center invites you to participate in a free professional development opportunity to improve the accessibility of the materials your students use for learning. Many students with disabilities experience barriers to using curriculum materials due to physical, sensory, or learning disabilities. The outcome of the offered professional development is that you will improve your students’ access to the same curriculum materials as their classmates. And, we’re certain that you’ll discover that accessibility improves the quality of your curriculum for all learners. For this activity, we’re targeting educators in their first, second, or third year of teaching; however, we welcome all interested participants. Small groups from the same school or district are encouraged.

Despite recent updates meant to streamline the VPAT and make it easier to use, the VPAT remains a highly technical document. In this webinar, we will discuss the benefits and limitations of the VPAT and then walk you through an exemplar VPAT as we provide tips for what to look for in each section when interpreting a VPAT from a vendor.
