CAST's Luis F. Pérez Honored with ISTE Award

Luis F. Pérez, Technical Assistance Specialist at CAST, was honored this week by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) with the Making IT Happen Award for “outstanding educators and leaders who demonstrate extraordinary commitment, leadership, courage and persistence in improving digital learning opportunities for students.”

Pérez was honored this week during ISTE’s annual conference, which was held online. 

“Luis is a trusted and creative leader in the field of technology and accessibility,” says Linda Gerstle, CAST CEO. “We’re so delighted to see him recognized as such with this important award from ISTE. Congratulations, Luis!” 

“Technology has played an important role in empowering me as a lifelong learner to do my best work and find my voice as an advocate for inclusive learning,” says Pérez. “ISTE has been a leader in promoting technology to solve education’s toughest challenges, especially for learners with disabilities. I thank them for this award and look forward to many more years of working together.”

The author of two books—Learning on the Go (CAST, 2018) and Dive into UDL (with Kendra Grant; ISTE, 2018), Luis Pérez holds a PhD from the University of South Florida. He was recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) in 2009 and as a Google in Education Certified Educator in 2014. 

At CAST, Pérez promotes the creation, delivery and use of high quality accessible educational materials and technologies for students through the National AEM Center.
